Presidential Scholarships $20,000 ($5,000/year for four consecutive years)

Awarded to highest achieving students who score in the top percentile on the HSPT, display outstanding academic performance and commitment to extracurricular involvement. 

Students need not apply; Good Counsel awards this scholarship based on application components. 

Alumni & Friends Legacy Scholarship: ~$1,250/year for four consecutive years

Established through generous gifts made in honor or memory of alumni and friends of GC. This scholarship will be awarded annually to an incoming freshman legacy student (defined as the child or grandchild of a Good Counsel alum). Preference will be given to a student with financial need. The scholarship is renewable as long as the student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Dr. Paul Barker Endowment for Student Talent (BEST) Scholarship: ~$2,500/year for four consecutive years

The Dr. Paul Barker Endowment for Student Talent (BEST) Scholarship was established by the Peace through Law Foundation in honor of Thomas Fortune Fay, who served as a member of Good Counsel’s Board of Directors from 2017-2020, and in recognition of the June 2023 retirement of Dr. Paul Barker as President of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School.

Criteria:

• High achieving students who have demonstrated leadership through extracurricular activities and a commitment to serving others.

Criteria to Maintain Scholarship: 

• Student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
• Student must maintain satisfactory academic, attendance and disciplinary standing

This scholarship, which is awarded every four years, is not available to be awarded this year.

Cashen Bohlander '18 Memorial Scholarship: ~$5,000/year for four consecutive years

Given in memory of Cashen Bohlander, this need-based scholarship is awarded to a student accepted into the Ryken Studies Program who possesses qualities similar to those possessed by Cashen, including her commitment to hard work, compassion for others, and perseverance.

• Demonstrates financial need as determined by FACTS
• Preference given to female graduates of St. Peter's School

Criteria to Maintain Scholarship:

• Student must maintain satisfactory academic, attendance, and disciplinary standing
• Student must participate in at least one school activity/club/athletic team

This scholarship is awarded annually. To be considered for this scholarship, students must apply by December 6, 2024.

• Demonstrates exceptional talent, accomplishments, or leadership in choral arts, basketball or soccer
• Demonstrates financial need as determined by FACTS (preference, not required)

Criteria to Maintain Scholarship: 

• Student must maintain eligibility as outlined above in selection criteria
• Student must maintain satisfactory academic, attendance and disciplinary standing
• Student must maintain participation in Good Counsel's highest level of choral arts, basketball or soccer

John E. Doyle '76 Memorial Scholarship: ~$1,000 one-time scholarship

Given in memory of John Doyle '76, this scholarship is awarded to an outstanding eighth-grade student graduating from St. Mary of the Mills in Laurel, Maryland, and attending Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. The recipient is selected by St. Mary of the Mills School; please contact their administrative office for more information.

Speech and Debate Scholarships $9,000 - $16,000 ($2,250 - $4,000/year for four consecutive years)

Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman students who place first through sixth in the Speech and Debate competition held annually each year.

The Schulien Family Endowed Scholarship: ~$1,250/year for four consecutive years

Established by Anthony ’83 and Kathleen Schulien, this scholarship will provide a four-year award to an incoming freshman with demonstrated financial need.

Criteria:

• The freshman should be a student with As and Bs and be from a Maryland middle or K-8 school, with preference given to students from St. Catherine (Wheaton, MD)
• Preference is given to a student with an interest in lacrosse

Criteria to Maintain Scholarship:

• Student must maintain satisfactory academic, attendance, and disciplinary standing
• Maintain a 3.0 GPA or greater
• Continue to participate in at least one athletic team, school activity or club

The Stafford Fitzgerald Nibley ’14 Memorial Endowed Scholarship: ~$1,250/year for four consecutive years

Established in memory of Stafford Fitzgerald Nibley ’14, this scholarship will be awarded annually to a rising freshman who shares Stafford’s intense passion for musical theater/performance. Preference will be given to a student who is involved in and passionate about musical theater/performance and demonstrates a true passion for music arts through their involvement and dedication to their studies. If the criteria for involvement/interest in musical theater cannot be met in a given year, consideration may be given to a student who is a member of the choir, band, or related musical ensemble (in that order). 

The scholarship is renewable as long as the criteria is met by the recipient in subsequent years.

• Student involved in Musical Theater/Performance (Preference)

OR student member of choir, band or related musical ensemble

• Demonstrated dedication to studies

Criteria to Maintain Scholarship:

• Student must maintain satisfactory academic, attendance, and disciplinary standing
• Student must maintain involvement in Musical Theater/Performance OR remain a member of the choir, band or related musical ensemble

XBLES: ~$1,250/year for four consecutive years

Established by the class of 1962 during their 50th year reunion, the XBLES scholarship honors the memory of the Xaverian Brothers by providing financial assistance to an exceptional student throughout their Good Counsel journey. The scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who embodies the characteristics of the Xaverian charism: humility, simplicity, compassion, zeal, and trust. The ideal candidate is academically exceptional.

Criteria:

• Academically outstanding student
• Embodies the characteristics of the Xaverian charism: humility, simplicity, compassion, zeal, and trust
• Demonstrates financial need as determined by FACTS
