Daniel Booth Bio continued...

When Booth arrived at Good Counsel in 2020, the Falcons had only a varsity team and a sparse JV team that played little games. Since then, he has made it into a three-team program.

Booth has added over ten more matches to the varsity team’s schedule while also adding a more competitive JV schedule. He also added a third team, a “practice squad” team, that houses inexperienced players in the hopes of developing them for the JV and varsity teams.

Under Booth, the Falcons have established their home course at Manor Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. Good Counsel has also received better coordination with their uniforms for matches.

Last season, Good Counsel saw four senior golfers receive offers to play Division III golf.

“We’ve had so many people come out to tryouts. Golf has exploded at Good Counsel,” Booth said. “Instead of cutting all these people, I thought it best to create this third team, this practice squad … We could keep them in the program, teach them, coach them, and give them something to aim for.”

Booth moved to the United States in 2017 after growing up in Essex, England. He played both soccer and golf, eventually competing and placing in the top ten in junior golf competitions. He also played collegiate soccer in England.

“I always say that soccer was my trade and Golf was my passion,” Booth said. “In England, a guy growing up in England, you have to play soccer … My father was the guy that got me into golf.”

He began his teaching career at public schools in the London area before moving to the United States. He taught mathematics at the Washington Jesuit Academy for three years while serving as the soccer head coach.

Booth now teaches mathematics at Good Counsel while coaching the golf team. He was the head JV soccer coach for two seasons and the JV golf coach before becoming the head gold coach in 2021.

“I've worked in two continents as a coach and as a teacher, and Good Counsel is the best school I think I've ever worked at,” Booth said. “It's a great community to be a part of."
