Chuck Hoag enters his first year as the equestrian moderator at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School.
In his role, Hoag coordinates with the Falcons’ athletic department on scheduling and rostering and ensures that the team meets WCAC rules and guidelines.
“The goal, of course, is to get the kids on the team used to riding in competitions and scoring points in those competitions and to understand the need to take care of those horses and their needs,” Hoag said.

Hoag also serves as the JV golf coach for Good Counsel, a role he holds for the first time this school year. He served as the varsity golf coach at Laurel High School before coming to Good Counsel.
“I want to take kids who have potential to be on the varsity team and to develop those skills so that they have what it takes to reach the varsity level,” Hoag said.
Hoag is now in his 25th school year with Good Counsel, having joined as a math teacher in 2000. He watched as the school moved from Wheaton to Olney and served as the math department head. Hoag also began teaching engineering classes at Good Counsel in 2016.
“The thing I adore about Good Counsel are the students, the faculty, and the fact that I get to teach,” Hoag said.
